More Car Drama...

Remember a few months back when I went in the ditch on a snowy night??...Yup? That was fun. And then do you recall when I got my car towed from a hockey game??...Ya do? That was flipping fun too! The latest drama has nothing to do w/ my car "physically" but rather my car registration...& we'll throw in some mailbox drama while we're at it.

Towards the end of last year I noticed that I wasn't getting as much mail as usual. I would get a little something here & there though so I figured there wasn't a huge problem because if there was I wouldn't get any mail AT ALL right?? WRONG! One Fri afternoon I received a call from a credit card company & a company I bought concerts tickets from. They both claimed that what they had sent me in the mail had been sent back as undeliverable! WHAT?? So, after going down to the post office & calling a few times I finally found out that someone had told the postal service that I no longer lived there. (Just a heads up...when you call the Waterloo post office it is best to dial the extension for passports. That is the ONLY line that will actually be answered. Plus, the lady is really nice.) Anyways, I told them that YES I still live there & so my mail went back to normal.

Fast forward to the beginning of March. Nick & I had scheduled to get our taxes done on the 7th. I had all our tax papers together & as we were leaving I ran to my car to grab my car registration *Expiration: Nov 2008* Say what!?! My first thought was that I had paid it & then never put the paper in my car. I rushed inside & started rummaging through papers. I made a mess!! I was so pissed at myself because I'm usually such an organized person when it comes to that kind of stuff. I soon gave up & Nick & I left for our appointment. On the way, I realized that I had never even gotten the renewal info in the mail...it should have come the end of last year...when I WASN'T getting my mail!! Lovely.

I didn't drive my car at all the rest of that weekend because I didn't want to risk getting a ticket. It was a miracle that I hadn't gotten one already! I had no choice but to drive it on Mon & Tues the following week though because I had to work & the DOT wasn't open on Mondays. I knew that they stayed open until 6:00 on Tuesdays so I planned to go there after work & renew my registration. That afternoon I found out that the DOT stayed open until 6:00 but NOT the treasurers office! Super! They closed at 4:15 & I didn't get off until 4:45. Luckily, I have an awesome supervisor who let me leave work an hour early to go get it taken care of! I ended up having to pay almost $30.00 in penalty fees which I wasn't to happy about. I guess it's better than a ticket.

So, I left the DOT that day kinda moody about having to pay fees & having to lose an hour of pay to do it! I called my mom on the way home to vent & we had a conversation about how I always seem to have to deal w/ random bull crap all the time. I spoke to soon.....

I turned onto my street & was going to stop by the mailbox to get my mail like I do everyday. No mailbox...just pieces of it all over my front yard!! The ONLY one destroyed on my street!! SERIOUSLY!! We still don't know what happened to it but my best guess is that the garbage truck may have hit it. They drive around kinda crazy & the top of the mailbox was about 20 feet away which indicates to me that something BIG must have hit it. I reported it to the police just incase someone else's may have been messed w/ or if something ends up happening again. It's just kind of funny how someone told the postal service that I don't live there anymore & then a few months later someone hits & destroys my mailbox. I don't know whether I have an unknown enemy or if my mail does!?!? ;)
